What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis, whether guided or by oneself, is powerful because you can speak directly to your subconscious mind. By doing so, new good behaviors can be learned and integrated quickly, replacing bad behaviors. Mental Falconry ™ uses traditional coaching tools strengthened by practical and effective hypnosis.

What is hypnosis?
The simplest definition is that it is a state of heightened suggestibility. More rapid learning and change can take place because the power of the subconscious mind is more accessible to you. Hypnotic trance is not sleep, but rather a state of relaxed concentration. Physiologically, the predominant brainwaves observed in a state of trance are alpha-waves, similar to those in a mind in meditation or just before sleep.

Why does hypnosis allow fast change?
Hypnosis allows these new beliefs to be learned and integrated faster. In a typical Mental Falconry ™ client session, the trainer will work with the client to clarify the goal(s), and make sure that the client really desires the change.

The speed at which one change is related to the speed at which one learns and integrates new beliefs. Why is learning important? If a person desires increased financial abundance, for example, he must learn a new set of beliefs about the worth of his time and how he spends it.

Why is willpower often not enough?
The subconscious mind is designed to protect you from danger, and since change in nature is often a sign of danger, your subconscious mind is averse to changes in your environment, and in your beliefs. If you want to quit smoking, but deep down, believe that you’re a smoker, you will continue to smoke. With hypnosis, on the other hand, you can change deeply held beliefs from the start. You can believe that you are a non-smoker, and then act consistently with being a non-smoker.

Can I be hypnotized?
Anyone can be hypnotized. What does it feel like? If you’ve missed your exit on the highway, or your station on the train before, you’ve been in a hypnotic trance. The lighter states of trance are present when you’re simply talking to yourself. In fact, we hypnotize ourselves all the time, sometimes in unhelpful, self-reinforcing ways, like “My memory is getting bad.” or “I’m no good at remembering names.” What if you could replace these unhelpful self-suggestions with new, productive ones?

Is hypnosis safe?
Hypnosis is safe because you are conscious through the entire session. You can choose not to follow any suggestion. And, since, your self-preservation mechanisms are always there, if the fire alarm goes off, you would wake you up and head for the door.

Hypnosis was approved in 1958 by the American Medical Association as an adjunct to medical treatment.

Why do hypnotized people on stage do crazy things?
First, people who volunteer for stage hypnosis shows do so in the context of wanting to entertain other people. Second, volunteers are heavily screened for suggestibility. In contrast, work done by consulting hypnotists is done with ordinary people to remedy ordinary problems.
